THE AIM OF WRITING EROTICA:

The aim of erotic fiction is to sexually stimulate the reader. People's tastes vary tremendously. One may love the subtle approach, the slow seduction, cumulating in full-blown sex. Another may like the hard, cold approach, sex for the sake of sex. Do bear in mind that, whatever a reader's preference, a strong story line is most important. No one wants page after page of bonking.

Many readers enjoy relating to a story, a situation. A yearning for the girl next door, the boy next door, the office secretary, the boss, another man's wife... These are all feasible fantasies, they can and do come true. But also remember that erotic fiction is a form of escapism. There's nothing wrong with centering your story around a sex dungeon in the bowels of an old castle.

Not many of us own old castles, so how is it possible to relate to such a story? We can't relate. Not to the castle, anyway. But it is possible to relate to the situation... A stunning teenage girl gets lost during a visit to a castle and finds her way down to the dungeon. There, she meets the eccentric owner of the castle. He is a middle-aged, good looking man. The girl is informed that she is trespassing. There's been a spate of break-ins and thefts, and the police will have to be called.

Already, the girl is vulnerable. It's a good idea to bring a little fear into the story. For example, she might have been in trouble with the police before. She can't afford to be arrested as the possible thief. Perhaps she shouldn't have been at the castle in the first place. Perhaps her parents thought that she was at university. Against their wishes, she'd taken the day off. It seems that there's no way out of her predicament. Unless...

Although the girl is horrified by the choice she is given, she feels that she has no choice. She either faces the police, or takes her punishment from the man. And so we have the setting for a story involving a teenage girl, an eccentric man, a sex dungeon, blackmail, intrigue...

NYMPHOMANIACAL GIRLS:

Not many teenage girls yearn for crude sex with any and every man they meet. There has to be a reason why a girl performs crude sexual acts, lesbian acts, bondage, caning. What is the reason? Blackmail? Money? Fear? Perhaps a joke or a dare went wrong. A young wife is blackmailed by her unscrupulous next door neighbour. He reckons that he has something on her. He saw her out with another man, he knows of her dirty little secret.

This is a case of mistaken identity, but the bored housewife sees a chance to have some fun. She makes out that she is terrified. If her husband discovers the shocking truth... How far will the game go? And who wins in the end? This is a perfect plot for a twist. Perhaps the woman's husband wanted to watch her getting screwed by another man, so he puts his neighbour up to the scam.

CHOOSING YOUR WORDS:

Choose your words carefully. By all means use expletives. But use these words sparingly. Personally, I believe it's best to use crude words only in the dialog. Your characters may swear and use foul language but, you, as the writer, don't need to use expletives to tell your story.

THE CHARACTERS:

What does the reader want in way of characters? To answer this question, you first have to decide who you are aiming your work at. Most female readers prefer gentle kissing and making love passionately type stories. The male readers seem to prefer the cold, hard screwing of teenie girls in school uniforms. Of course, this isn't always the case. Many female readers enjoy lesbian stories depicting hard lesbian licking and even lesbian bondage and punishment as well as explicit vaginal penetration.

You would be forgiven for trying to write a story covering all aspects of sex, but it won't work. By all means, bring love into your story. But be careful if you're going to have your loving couple whipping and sexually torturing each other and screwing around. Not many couples are into watersports, bondage, master and slave scenarios, naked buttock caning, anal sex, cleavage sex, group sex... All these fetishes at once? No, it won't work.

THE RULES:

On the subject of torture, there are rules which must be adhered to. No sex with animals. No underage sex. No blood... This means that you can whip and cane naked buttocks red-raw, but do not draw blood. Sex only between consenting adults... This can be a difficult one when writing some scenes. More on that later. The rules are common sense, really. Basically, write nothing illegal. The age of consent in the UK is sixteen. In the US, I believe it's eighteen. You'd best check with your own laws before embarking on schoolgirlie sex scenes.

Since the heroine of Lolita, a novel by Vladimir Nabokov, was born, the word Lolita has very different connotations. The best advice, no matter how innocent your story, is steer clear of plots even hinting at underaged sex with minors. An editor of mine once said... You can sit with a fifteen-year-old girl on the sofa but you mustn't touch her, don't even lay a finger on her. Then, at one minute past midnight, it's her sixteenth birthday...

I was in a pub once... Surprise, surprise. And a very attractive young girl standing next to me was refused a drink. She wasn't eighteen years old, according to the landlord. But, don't go and ruin the story by writing something like this...

Melanie grinned at the boy as she left the bathroom. Obviously stunned, he hovered in the doorway of her brother's room and gazed wide eyed as she allowed the towel to fall to one side and reveal the full lips of her young pussy.

Firstly, Melanie isn't supposed to be a common slut. Secondly, she is supposed to come across as innocent and naive. Thirdly, she isn't trying to get off with the lad. SHORT EROTIC STORIES:

This is probably the best place to begin writing erotica. A short story, novella, novelette... A quick introduction to the characters and setting, dive straight into the plot, and finish with an interesting twist. It sounds easy, and it is. But the idea isn't so easy. No one wants to read several pages of bonking with no real storyline or plot. One way to get going without too much effort is to write a short story in diary form. Daily entries of a young girl's life, her sexual exploits... In a diary, there's no need for too much characterisation or plotting. BASIC GRAMMAR:

Grammar, or lack of it, is where a lot of people go wrong and have their work rejected before the publisher has even read the first paragraph. This is too complex a subject to delve into here. However, there are some basic rules which you must adhere to. Take a look at this...

"Me and Fred went to the beach."

No, no, no. Firstly, you've put yourself before Fred. This is impolite. OK, so we'll change things round...

"Fred and me went to the beach."

This is better, but still incorrect. Why? You might have put young Fred first, but imagine that you went to the beach alone. So, simply remove Fred and you have this...

"Me went to the beach."

So, the correct way is...

"Fred and I went to the beach."

Remove Fred and you have...

"I went to the beach."

This may seem trivial but, to publishers, it's of utmost importance. Here's another reason why publishers won't even bother to read your work...

When Fred rammed his cock into me, I cried out. "OOOOOHHHHH YYEESSSSS !!!!!"

Neither of these words are in the dictionary. Capitalization errors, misspelled words, and as for !!!! It's the same with ???? You don't need to emphasize something with four screamers (exclamation marks) or four question marks. This not only looks tacky and childish, but it's wrong.
